——Remarks of Duan Qiang, Chairman of World Tourism Alliance, at the Inauguration Ceremony of WTA
It is of such pleasure to get together in the Chengdu City of Sichuan, China with representatives of influential travel associations, tourism enterprises and tourism research institutions from countries and regions of the world in this beautiful season of autumn. Together we will witness the official launch of World Tourism Alliance, which is a significant achievement that conforms with the current trend of world tourism. Today will certainly mark its place in the history of tourism both for China and for the entire world.
2017 celebrates the United Nations International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. Tourism, recognized for its contribution to the economic, social and environmental development, is taking on an increasingly significant role in promoting sustained growth. As a pioneering and forward-looking international organization, the World Tourism Alliance is consistent with the concept and spirit of sustainable development.
Following the vision of Better Tourism, Better World and the objectives to promote tourism for development, poverty reduction and peace, the World Tourism Alliance is committed to the enhancement of international exchanges within the global tourism community to promote mutual understanding, experience sharing and cooperation, and the cultivation of sustainable and inclusive development of world tourism. The vision and the commitment of the World Tourism Alliance demonstrate its characteristics of the time and its historical significance in promoting common prosperity for the entire industry.
With the support from all its founding members, the World Tourism Alliance will commit itself to attending to difficulties and challenges in the development of tourism, analyzing the trend of world tourism with big data, and providing statistics, research outcomes as well as policy consultations to its members. It will hold a variety of events such as its annual assemblies, summits and expos to build a platform for exchange and cooperation between the private and public sectors, and provide professional services for all members through collective efforts with other influential international tourism organizations, building new channels of dialogue, exchange and cooperation to promote business opportunities and experience sharing. It will also provide academic, training, consultation and plan-making services to encourage reciprocity, mutual trust and common prosperity. All in all, the Alliance will strive to help all members to actively participate in the “Belt and Road” cooperation and build on the sustainability of the entire industry.
On today’s occasion and on behalf of the World Tourism Alliance, I’d like to reiterate our commitment, that we will join hands with the international tourism community and devote ourselves to the building of mutual learning and mutual benefit through close cooperation, in a hope of carrying out our objectives, and harvesting from the realization of sustainable tourism for development.
